8th June 2025.... Another fab meal at Wody and Jackey's.

A Bananquit

A Black Bullfinch

We seat ourselves at a small table outside under sunshades.

20 mins later a tropical storm made us dash for shelter inside the restaurant.

We are served our Christophine gratin starter
Then the main plate.
An assortment of 12 tastes made from coconut and manioc, and many other things!
WidyGrego himself
and his partner Jackey, she worked so hard to keep everyone fed and dry during the dΓ©luge

We stopped at Saint Anne's on the way back.
Beautiful clean beach...seems the Sargassum has been cleared from here.

Iguana hiding on the rocks.

This is the Sargassum, piled up in this little bay, like rotting slabs of floating yuk 😱

Close up of Iggy, he likes the flies hereπŸ˜‚πŸ€£πŸ˜‚

Dave can't resist a bit of DIY...this bench needed glueing.
That cheeky Bullfinch is back!
Digestive biscuits will be his undoing πŸ˜‚

7th June 2025.....Trip on the Nautilus, lunch with crabs and chickens..!

Today a trip to Malendure, where we got on the Nautilus boat which has a glass bottom, so we can see the coral, fish and hopefully turtles.... without getting in the water.

On board and installed in the glass hull.
Our pictures were a bit blurry, but we saw a lot more than these pictures tell....
A dad surprised his kids by appearing outside the boat!
Some took to diving and snorkeling but we stayed out of the water, neither of us being good swimmers 😭
Great views from inside .

Alone in the glass hull
Meanwhile,  above on deck.
We were only about 25 to 30 people (including several babies and children) on board...so lots of space. (Can take up to 50 people)
The quick exit!
This is Pigeon island, which we sailed around.
Unfortunately we still haven't seen any turtles..😭

We had lunch at a very nice bar in Malendure, and watched the wildlife in the garden.....
When you see something dart out of a hole, you don't expect it to be a CRAB!

Or indeed, a chicken and her 7 chicks!

After lunch we drove South towards Bouillante, where we found the dreaded Sargassum again!

We think this is the volcano???

On this mountain there is a  Volcano Observatory.
😎😎😎
So we decided to investigate, of course it was closed (weekend)

We went for a circular walk around the observatory, thinking there would be good views at 400m ....but we ended up doing around a kilometer hike through quite dense forest....
No idea what this is!!!

Us explorersπŸ˜ŽπŸ˜‚πŸ€£

Found this enormous hermit crab (at 400m!)
There will be a video to go with the hermit crab.

A cannon...they seem to be everywhere πŸ€”
The walk
A seed pod from a mahogany tree.
A plant I thought I recognised!

Turkey tail bracket fungi

Tree roots like buttresses
Yes, we have no...

Home to the apartment, and the reason the tides have been high!
